My Roots

I am fortunate to have an eclectic background, my mother is British, I was born in Canada, and at the age of six we moved to Switzerland where I grew up and live now. My roots are therefore spread out rather than being strongly ingrained in one place. I have also lived and set roots in other parts of the world. All of these places are dear to me and I love to explore and continuously learn more about them.

Switzerland

We moved to Switzerland when I was a little girl. It was a bold decision of my parents as we had no family here, no friends, no connections. My dad had spent his last year of high school here, but it was otherwise unfamiliar territory. Nevertheless, they took the leap and here we stayed. I love Switzerland, for all its wonderful advantages – breathtaking landscapes, cleanliness, organisation and reliability – and I was fortunate to be granted Swiss citizenship over ten years ago. This is home to me, this is where I have planted my own roots.

Canada

Though I have never really lived in Canada (we moved away when I was six), it holds a strong place in my heart. I was very lucky that my parents kept a cottage there where I got to spend all my summers up until university. I have life-long friendships in Canada and most importantly I have family. For these reasons, I still feel very tied to my Canadian roots and I love to explore them any chance I get.
